Same-day plumbers in Bristol

Plumbers' days don't always go to plan. When one finishes early, a small job nearby is exactly what they want.

Coming soon. Not taking bookings yet.

IN SHORT

When a plumber finishes early or a customer cancels, they have spare hours today. When Fill My Day launches in Bristol, it will send your job to the plumbers nearby who have time for it, giving you a real chance of a same-day plumber. It's coming soon, not live yet, and it isn't a 24/7 emergency service.

If you smell gas: don't use switches or naked flames, open windows, leave the property and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. It's free and open 24 hours.

If water is pouring out: turn off your stopcock. It's usually under the kitchen sink, and turns clockwise to close. Then open the cold taps to drain the pipes.

Fill My Day is not a 24/7 emergency service. For a leak in the street, or to work out whether a leak is yours or Bristol Water's, see Bristol Water's help with leaks.

Fill My Day launches first in Bristol, with plumbers only. This page explains how it will help you find a plumber today, and where it won't.

Why a same-day plumber is hard to find for small jobs

Small jobs wait because most plumbers book their days in big blocks. A bathroom, a boiler swap, a day on site. A twenty-minute tap repair across town doesn't fit, because getting there and parking can take longer than the job. So you ring round, leave messages and hear back next week.

But plumbers' days don't always go to plan. A job finishes early, a customer cancels, the wrong fittings turn up. That's when a small job nearby is exactly what they want. The trouble is that nobody knows who's free right now. A directory lists everyone, busy or not.

How same-day matching will work

Fill My Day matches your job to plumbers who are free today and close enough to get to you. It works through availability windows.

  • The plumber opens a window. Free from, free until, where they're starting and how far they'll travel. For example, free from one until five, starting in Brislington, six miles.
  • You post the job. What needs doing, roughly where, when suits you, and a photo or two.
  • Matching checks three things. Your timing overlaps their window, you're inside their travel distance, and it's the kind of work they do.
  • The window ends on its own. When their free time is up, they stop being sent jobs. So the plumbers your job reaches are the ones who are actually free, not a profile that said "available" last month.

Plumbers who want the job reply with a price and when they can arrive. You compare them, accept the one you want, and messaging opens so you can agree the details. Nothing is booked until both of you have said yes.

We can't promise someone will be free every time. It depends on who is near you at that moment.

EXAMPLE

At 11:50 a plumber finishes fitting a radiator in Brislington an hour early. They open a window until 4pm, starting in Brislington, six miles. At 12:15 someone in Knowle posts a toilet that won't stop running, with a photo inside the cistern and "any time today". It fits the plumber's time, distance and work, so it's sent to them. They reply with a price and say they can be there by one. The customer accepts, and the job is done that afternoon.

Jobs that suit a plumber today

Same-day matching suits jobs that fit into a few spare hours, with parts from the van or a merchant nearby:

  • a dripping or loose tap, or fitting a new one
  • a toilet that keeps running or won't flush properly
  • a slow or blocked sink, bath or shower waste
  • a small leak under a sink or behind a washing machine
  • a radiator valve that needs replacing
  • an outside tap

Anything involving gas, such as a boiler or a gas hob, must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and on Fill My Day gas jobs only go to them.

If you need an emergency plumber in Bristol, don't wait for an app. Water through a ceiling or a leak near electrics needs help straight away: turn off your stopcock first. If you have no water at all, ask a neighbour. If they have water, the problem is probably in your home; if not, check Bristol Water for planned works.

Plumber or Bristol Water? Pipework inside the property boundary is the owner's responsibility, and so is the supply pipe from where it enters the property's land. Bristol Water looks after the mains. If your meter is outside, turn off your stopcock and watch it. If it still moves, the leak is between the meter and the stopcock, and Bristol Water's leaks page explains what to do next. If it stops, the leak is inside, and it's a job for a plumber.

What a same-day plumber might cost in Bristol

Fill My Day is free to use at launch, and each plumber replies with their own price, which you pay to them directly. Published guides give a sense of the range:

  • Bristol rates. MyJobQuote's emergency plumbing guide (7 October 2026) puts Bristol at £60 to £75 an hour and £75 to £95 for a call-out. It doesn't say whether those are standard or emergency rates.
  • Daytime call-outs. MyBuilder (21 August 2026) gives £80 to £120 for a weekday daytime call-out. Checkatrade (March 2026) says many plumbers don't charge a separate call-out fee and simply bill their hourly rate.
  • Emergencies cost more. Checkatrade (June 2026) puts an emergency call-out at £100 to £120, and says an emergency plumber may charge up to double the normal hourly rate. MyBuilder gives £100 to £140 for a late-night call-out and £120 to £150 at weekends.

Every plumber sets their own price, so ask what's included, whether parts are extra and whether there's a minimum charge. There's more in our guides to plumber call-out charges and what an emergency plumber costs.

Making your job an easy yes

The easier your job is to say yes to, the more plumbers it fits.

  • Add photos of the problem, the area around it and any make or model label.
  • Give a wide window. "Any time this afternoon" fits far more plumbers than "2pm exactly".
  • Mention parking. In a residents' parking zone, Bristol City Council lets you activate one of your visitor permits for a tradesperson.
  • Group small jobs. Two or three in one visit are more attractive than one.
